MOLTING MUTATIONS
2025 - 2026
I am drawn to systems: weather patterns, geological strata, water flow, plant growth, microbial life. Growing up on an isolated ranch, the raw power of nature instilled a visceral awareness of cycles of growth, collapse, death. Now living in an urban landscape, those forces, intensified by human intervention, breach the spaces we build.
I construct paintings as terrains, using old canvas, tarps, and recycled fabric to create surfaces that direct the flow of paint. Layers of detailed painting, drawing, sanding, and incision record erosion, decay, rupture, saturation and collapse.
The work reflects a state of entanglement. What reads as landscape also reads as body. Macro and micro converge. The paintings are a record of process and a pose question. What does it mean to alter the systems that sustain life?
LANDSCAPES
2010 - 2022
Central to this series of paintings is the divining of an altered state of consciousness, a celebration of disorientation. The elation of nature distorted through the psyche, twisted by technology, is echoed in the final flicks of paint. In public art, my approach is to fuse the constraints of the space and the needs of the client so seamlessly with my own vision that the resulting project feels as though nothing could have existed alone.
