“Bayou Ballad” Install - DAY 2

Day 2 of the “Bayou Ballad” installation at IAH Airport brought even more excitement as the artwork began to truly emerge onto the walls. Created by artist Dixie Friend Gay, commissioned by United Airlines and Intercontinental Airport, and fabricated and installed with Mosaika.

The Mosaika installation team continued their work with precision and enthusiasm. After carefully peeling away the adhesive from the tile installed the previous day, the team inspected the surface, secured any loose pieces, and completed the remaining tile installation on the northwest wall.

The first recognizable elements of the artwork are now coming into view. Larger than life dragonflies, a monarch butterfly, and a spoonbill in flight.  

The front-facing sections of the columns came out of the crate, featuring high-fired, hand-glazed and hand-formed ceramic pieces. These meticulously crafted elements create a subtle low-relief surface for travelers to discover as they pass by, with layers of rich glaze and speckled color adding depth and movement to the installation.
