DIXIE FRIEND GAY’s large-scale drawings at Ceysson & Bénétière NY are erotic, earthy, and wonderfully strange. Human bodies and body parts twist, merge, and collide with forms drawn from the natural world: fungus, plants, and other organic matter.
Highly detailed and intensely focused on form and texture, the drawings move between sensuality and abjection, growth and decay, fertility and death. There is something visceral and primordial about these works—a world of fleshy forms, decomposition, and transformation where the boundaries between human and earth disappear.
The artist created these works with watercolors and ink using needle-thin Rapidograph pens on archival watercolor paper.
